Merino wool is an excellent choice, as it does not itch and has antibacterial properties, making it ideal for children with eczema or sensitive skin. The practical side of merino wool: it does not need to be washed frequently, as it possesses self-cleaning properties. Often, it is sufficient to simply air the beanie outside. Should cleaning be necessary, I recommend gently hand-washing it with lukewarm water at a maximum of 30 °C. Use a special wool detergent to maintain the quality of the wool. If you wish to clean the beanie in the washing machine, make sure to only use the wool program at 20 °C and a low spin speed.
