Collection: COMFORTERS

Why the comforter becomes so important

Experts call it a "transitional object": the comforter helps babies and toddlers to calm themselves – when falling asleep, during nursery settling-in or when mum and dad are briefly away. The familiar smell and soft feel give security, which is why the cloth often becomes a companion for years.

The twin trick

Experienced parents buy an identical second one early and use both in rotation: that way, both smell and feel the same, and if one is in the wash or gets lost on the go, there are no tears. Regular washing also keeps the favourite hygienically fresh.

You'll find bigger cuddly friends under Soft toys and Favourite companions.

Soft, familiar and always there: a good comforter is one of the most beautiful gifts for a new baby – and often becomes the most important piece in the whole children's room.
