Was gehört in eine gut gepackte Wickeltasche?

What goes in a well-packed changing bag?

The nappy bag is a constant companion in everyday baby life. Well packed, you have everything with you on the go without lugging along a whole nursery. Here is an overview of what really belongs in it – and a few tips on keeping track.

The basic changing kit

  • Nappies (a few more than you think you will need)
  • A compact travel changing mat – there is practical changing accessories for exactly this
  • Wet wipes or washcloths
  • A small barrier cream – gentle care products like those by Minois Paris also come in travel size
  • A wet bag or a small pouch for used items

Clothing and co.

  • A complete change of clothes (mishaps always happen when you have none with you)
  • A muslin cloth – versatile as a burp cloth, privacy screen or mat
  • Depending on the weather: hat, socks or a thin jacket

For feeding

  • When breastfeeding: a nursing cloth if you like, and something to drink for yourself
  • When bottle-feeding: a prepared bottle, measured powder, boiled water
  • For older babies: a small snack

Little things that make the difference

  • A dummy (if your baby takes one), ideally in a case
  • A small toy for on the go
  • Disinfectant wipes and a few plasters
  • Something for you: lip balm, a snack, the essentials from your wallet

Tip: keep track with an organiser

A nappy bag with compartments or small organiser pouches saves nerves – so you find the dummy without endless rummaging. Ideally, pack the bag in the evening for the next day and top up whatever has been used straight away. By the way: if you prefer carrying your baby, a compact carrier like the Wildride baby carrier together with a small crossbody bag makes a wonderfully light duo for short outings.

Frequently asked questions

How many nappies belong in the nappy bag?

As a rule of thumb: one nappy per hour out and about, plus two spares. For a normal half-day trip that is usually four to six.

From when should the nappy bag be packed?

At the latest a few weeks before the due date – at first it doubles as a supplement to the hospital bag. More on preparing for this time can be found in our postpartum checklist.

Do you need a special nappy bag or will a normal backpack do?

Both work. Dedicated nappy bags score with well-thought-out compartments and an integrated changing mat; a backpack with organiser pouches comes almost to the same result – what matters is the order inside.

Beautiful and well-designed nappy bags and organisers can be found with us – especially charming are the models by Studio Noos.
