The river wheel is the powerful slow runner among the water wheels. Weighted down with stones on its frame in the stream, it lets the water transfer its force to the mill wheel across the full width. Unlike a large mill wheel, it uses mainly the kinetic energy of the flowing water.
The power gained can be passed on: with a cord, the river wheel will even drive the basket cable car or the hammer mill. That turns an afternoon by the stream into an afternoon with a small working power station.
Kraul is a family business from Icking near Munich. Walter Kraul, originally a Waldorf teacher, developed the first cable cars and water wheels for his own children. Production still takes place in Germany, using native timbers.
