HOLZWALD wooden animals: handmade animal figures

Since 1997, HOLZWALD has been making figures of animals and people in a small workshop in Georgia. Every piece is sanded several times, rounded at the edges, painted with natural colours and finished with oil. As a result, the figures sit comfortably in small hands and stand up to everyday play.

From the farm to the Arctic

Most of the collection is animal figures, some of them available in two sizes. For the farm there is a grazing cow, a standing lamb, piglet, pig and Haflinger horse; for the forest a fawn, wild piglet, hedgehog, mouse and green woodpecker. The ibex and the Bernese mountain dog add a Swiss touch. If you are after something more exotic, you will find a lion, tiger, kangaroo with baby, small crocodile or snow leopard, and for underwater worlds a seahorse, starfish, Moorish idol and corals in red and yellow. Maya Fee, the ballerina, the mermaid and the unicorn bring figures for fairy tales and role play, while the small oak tree and a few building blocks provide the scenery.

Tips for collecting

To start with, three or four animals from one habitat are enough, such as a small farm trio. Children often play with these for longer than with a big set, because they know the animals and can name them. After that, the collection can grow piece by piece.

You will find figures by other makers under wooden figures. Our guide Why wooden toys? explains the advantages of wood in the nursery, and the wooden toys category shows our whole wooden range.
