Wooden toys for babies + children in Switzerland
Wooden toys are one of our largest categories: animal figures, building blocks, construction sets, marble runs, vehicles and rattles from brands such as Holzwald, Grapat, Bauspiel, Wooden Story, Holler Poller, Bezisa, Timberix and Cuboro. Our guide Why wooden toys? explains why many families choose wood on purpose.
Figures + open-ended play worlds
Holzwald's animal figures range from the standing lamb to the alpaca, horse and pig, all the way to the sea eagle and sloth; together they become a farm, a forest or a zoo. Grapat focuses on open-ended play materials: the little Nins, such as Baby Nins or Nins of the Forest, and colourful mandala sets like Mandala Snowflake or Mandala Pumpkin. These pieces have no fixed purpose, so children sort them, lay out patterns or invent stories. You can read how this works in our article on open-ended play. All figures are gathered together under wooden figures.
Building, stacking + rolling marbles
There are several systems for little builders. Timberix combines Brixis, Twister and Timber Bricks: the START 40 and START 80 sets are the starting point, and PLUS 20 and PLUS 50 extend them. Bauspiel offers, for example, Colourstreet pastell with «luminous blocks», and the Loggos wooden blocks in beech and walnut come with 6, 22 or 33 pieces. You'll find more choice among our wooden building blocks. Cuboro makes marble runs from wooden cubes that can be rearranged again and again; more runs are waiting under marble runs.
For babies + everyday life
For the youngest there are rattles such as the Rassel Nighthawk and wooden teethers, and for the whole family the Perpetual Calendar, on which children lay out days, months and seasons.
Frequently asked questions
From what age are wooden toys suitable? Rattles and teethers are made for babies, while sets with small parts such as Nins, stones or marbles are only for children who no longer put things in their mouth. Always check the age information on each product.
How do I care for wooden toys? Wipe them with a slightly damp cloth and let them air-dry. Don't soak them in water or put them in the dishwasher, otherwise the wood swells.
Can the sets be extended? Yes. With Timberix the PLUS sets add to the START sets, and Holzwald's animals can gradually grow into a collection of your own.
